Ian started shooting at 11 with an air rifle in the back garden but rapidly progressed onto small-bore TR. He was asked to join a regional training squad and later the National U21 small-bore rifle squad in which his highlight was being the reserve for an U21 GB tour to Norway.
University then came and Ian stopped shooting when 19 – something he now regrets. However, he re-entered the sport by sheer fluke some 26 years later when in 2011 his company asked for shooters in a full-bore TR competition. Ian pitched in, had a decent shoot and thought “This is fun” and instantly became a fully committed full-bore shooter.
In 2014 Ian was part of John Webster’s NRA tour to the Channel Islands as a shooter and returned there in 2023 as part of the management team. Then, in 2016 Ian achieved his ultimate goal which was to shoot for GB as part of Lindsay Peden’s tour to Canada & USA.
