The match consisted of 2 teams of 8 firers, 2 coaches and 1 main coach competing against the Guyanese Rifle Team.

The team set off from the resort at 0735hrs and were met by the army at the 300yd firing point troop shelter and commenced the pre match routine of filling in plot sheets, checking sights and ensuring that all kit as well as all team members were ready for message 1 at 300yds. However, despite the teams being ready to go at the scheduled time, message 1 was delayed due to a bus being stuck, and the team having to wait for the ants to be killed on targets 6 & 7. Back at 500yds, the sun came out and the temperature increased, and the diarist may or may not have heard some sizzling around his ankles, but despite that, and the fact that Matty YET again required the skills of our armourer to rectify a problem with his trigger, three 50s, including an epic 50.7 from Rupert Knight nosed England back in front.

The coaches may have been put through their paces at 600yds, but a smooth and efficient performance was carried out by England. Following the final shot down range, the Guyanese treated us all to some post-match refreshments, and following the packing away of rifles and closing down of the range, during which there may have been YET another incident regarding a truck getting stuck in the sand, which was quickly salvaged by a cross team scrummage, the team returned back to the hotel for sundowners and a team brief back at the resort, during which the Captain gave an inspirational display of leadership and athletic excellence, but we will leave that to your imagination.

Number of Lollipops: 11

Lollipops to date: 25

The last 2 days of individual shooting have been leading to this… competing for the Demerara Cup (provided by the England Rifle Team).
