Rupert (“Roo”) started shooting full-bore in 1985 at RGS Guildford and is now a regular shot with the Old Guildfordians (OG’s) and Captain of Somerset County RA.
Roo first toured South Africa in 2006, top scoring for GB in the Protea Match, then returning in 2009 to celebrate the 80th year of the South African Bisley Union, “cleaning up” with the OG’s on and off the ranges. Roo won gold and set a new record in the America Match (GB Canada 2006), won gold and set a new record in the Palma Match (Canada 2007), returning to Canada in 2013, where he learnt how to set records with “Turbo”, always off the range. This is his first England tour.
Roo’s other major interest is rock climbing and mountaineering, with many months spent overseas on various trips and expeditions. He has missed only one Imperial meeting, in 2010, to test the limits on an 8,000m peak – Gasherbrum II – in Northern Pakistan.
He is a company senior executive, having spent the vast majority of his career in the aerospace industry. He is married to Karen, having not toured overseas since the arrival of the first of two children, back in 2014. He is now allowed out again!
