Paul started shooting with his father, having spent many a year at Bisley “on holiday” as a child. In his early years, he captained The Perse School and the University of London and was Adjutant of the 2004 Great Britain Under 25 South Africa tour. The General de Wet remains one of his favourite rifle ranges having been a member of the 2008 Great Britain Rifle Team that was victorious in the Protea Match – a feat that he aims to help this team achieve.
This is his second England tour, the other also being to South Africa in 2009. After a brief hiatus from shooting, selection onto this team continues his successful return to the sport having finished top Englishman for the past two years in the Grand Aggregate and achieved ‘Big 5’ status after Kolapore selection in 2018. The highlight of his individual shooting career came in 2019 having finished 2nd in the Grand Aggregate, by a solitary v-bull, but it remains the numerous England team appearances and a Palma cap in 2011 that hold the fondest memories as there is nothing quite like being part of a cohesive team that has worked hard to achieve success.
Away from shooting, Paul is a Colorectal and Emergency General Surgeon currently looking for a grownup job as a Consultant as close to Bisley as possible. In his spare time he is a keen cyclist and plans to race up some Alps should help him to be in shape for the temperatures expected on the General de Wet rifle range.
