Another rare, fairly quiet* day, though with a few bits & bobs to be done. Plans to visit Kimberly (the site of an old diamond mine, aka, “it’s a big hole in the ground”) were shelved due to the need to measure rifle chambers in order to prepare ammunition for the next day, plus a few bits of rifle tweaking and the team heading out to the General De Wet Range with spotting scopes for a bit of a recce and to get a few clues about what the wind does. Mercifully, what it does is a lot less chaotic than what we were treated to in Kenya, but each range brings its own challenges and avoiding complacency is a must.
Other range prep also ensued and shopping trips for personal effects, lunch materials and a not insignificant volume of bottled water also took place. Despite being considerably less equatorial than Kenya, South Africa certainly feels a lot hotter and the latter purchases are expected to be both popular and necessary in equal measure.
Triggergate Update: a replacement unit for a Paramount target rifle has been sourced and installed on the rifle in question. Leading by example would have otherwise been tricky…
Beyond that, informal dinner plans and an early night (except for those involved in preparing/sizing ammunition for each individual) were very much on the cards.
