Having dismally failed to break out our ammunition from Air Canada Cargo yesterday due to our not appreciating Customs working hours, we had another go this morning. Captain, Vice, Archie and Jeremy found their way back to the airport and on to Customs where the Captain’s previous experience of dealing with the Officers there yielded a smooth experience.
Though it took a couple of hours, the two buses returned with the 11000 odd rounds needed for our team and various other nations/individuals.
It must be said that it was very refreshing that at no time did we encounter any “Job’s worths”, the Canadians living up to their quiet politeness.
Unable to access our classroom till tomorrow, the team had already begun getting some zeroes at 800 metres before the buses with the balance of the ammunition arrived at Connaught.
The weather was delightful and we shot at 900 metres in the afternoon, sorting out long range zeroes, some of which varied considerably.
Once all back at the hotel, the team gathered for some sundowners and celebrated Jemima (Ginger Ninja’s) 18th birthday. The only hitch being finding a lighter that worked well enough to light the candles on her cake!
