Dear England Shooters,
The EXX Council has honoured me with the captaincy of the 2028 tour to Canada.
This is a new form of England tour which aims to build on the work of the Lions programme to develop shooters and coaches to help ensure the continuing success of England going forwards. To support this aim, I intend to select a team with as strong a Lions representation as possible. However, as the tour aim is to develop up and coming shooters, I encourage anyone who is interested to apply. In addition, as the Commonwealth and Canada matches will be competed for in 2028, the strength of the team will be bolstered by experienced English shooters.
In the spirit of the above, I have selected a management team comprising of former Lions Rick Webb and David Colegate to be my Vice-Captain and Adjutant respectively.
The core of the tour will take in the Ontario Rifle Association Championships and the Canadian Fullbore Rifle Championships which is likely to still be at Borden. The dates for the core tour are 5th to 21st Aug-28 requiring 11 days leave (TBC).
However, for those who wish, we will precede the core tour with an optional leg taking in a provincial meeting involving departing up to a week earlier requiring up to 5 additional days leave.
Initially we will select a squad which will train together through 2027 with selection of team and reserves being made after the 2027 Imperial. Anyone not selected will be invited to continue training with us as part of a development squad.
We are also looking to develop future management skills and intend to have a shadow Captain, Vice and Adjutant (and even roles such as armourer), so if you have an interest in one of these roles, please indicate that on the application form.
