The captain’s bus travelling to the Grand Canyon via Raton and Albuquerque had an early start on Tuesday leaving the hotel for another five hundred mile road trip. Monday’s trip had started at 6am with a stop off at Raton to leave the shooting kit and rifles before heading on to Las Vegas for lunch. Las Vegas New Mexico is however a rather different animal to the Nevada version where the rest of the team were resident at that time. Subway and Dairy Queen provided lunch (in some cases over-provided) and we were back on the road again to Santa Fe where Holly modelled some fur coats and Webbie tried on a full length, leather raincoat. Apparently, the $4,500 price tag was a little outside Holly’s budget but she did vow to own one some day.
Albuquerque to Grand Canyon took us via the Painted Desert where there were some very impressive views and we saw the petrified trees – wood that had turned to highly coloured stone due to the crystals that formed within it over thousands of years.
The journey was accompanied by music chosen by Webbie from his collection of iconic British and American playlists. He did disclaim responsibility for Crazy Frog and some Paris Hilton tracks that ‘must have been loaded by George and Lucy’, his son and daughter.
Arriving at the Grand Canyon at around 5pm we checked into the hotel and left a note for everyone to meet at 8. Unbeknown to the group, the time had changed back an hour so when we were in our mind an hour late for the team meeting, we were actually on time – all very confusing.
